International Women's Day 2025 was a celebration and a call to action. At the elaborate function hosted by HRM Dr Elizabeth Ajibola, The Managing Director of Betty Distribution.
Influential women from Mile 24Market, Mount Olive, Auntie Betty Bakery, and Betty Distribution gathered together to talk about what matters.
From business executives to project managers, HR professionals to aspiring women leaders, the room was filled with career women who were bent on breaking glass ceilings. .
Dr Ajibola spoke directly to the women in these organisations, reminding them of their unique strengths and the reality of playing in multiple roles such as: professional, mother, sister, wife, and leader.
Yet how does a woman Accelerate Action in a world that has, for far too long, viewed her as a second-class citizen in the business arena? How does she stake her claim and fully earn it?
Building a Platform for Success: The Four Pillars
Dr. Ajibola did not just discuss issues; she laid out a plan for women who want to succeed without compromising their standards. She emphasized that growth does not occur by chance, and for women to truly Accelerate Action, they must build their success on these four pillars:
1. Accountability: Own Your Journey to Success, and no one else is responsible for it but you. Dr. Ajibola stressed that women must take full ownership of their dreams, goals, and careers. Excuses don’t create results—action does.
2. Focus and Avoid Distractions
When there is so much noise in the world, the ability to focus is a superpower. With all the office politics and societal pressure, the distractions are many, but the ones who make it through are the ones who fix their eyes on the target and will not be
3. Never Relegate Yourself: Know Your Worth
For far too long, women have been socialized to shrink, stay in the background, and wait to be chosen. Dr. Ajibola called upon every woman in the room to take up space, speak up, and step into leadership with confidence. No one will give you power—you must claim it.
4. Put in the Work: The Hustle is Real
There is no replacement for hard work, persistence, and strategy. Success is not given; it is won through consistency, effort, and smart decision-making. She also shared her personal testimony—how she earned her first and second master's degrees while working as a mother and wife. The secret? Planning, prioritizing, and seeking support.
Position themselves for leadership – Learn, grow, and step up.
Stop seeking validation – Know your value and own your expertise.
Make strategic career moves – Don't get stuck in your comfort zone; aim for more.
